One portion of Penn Clarke’s 7-month Great Loop Trip in his sailboat Mystic Turtle was crossing the open Gulf of Mexico from Carrabelle to Tarpon Springs, Florida in 1999. He was cruising because the mast had been removed prior to this journey. The only diesel engine on his sailboat died mysteriously. Earlier in Canada it took him only 3 hours to get it going, but this time a very seasick Penn took 7 hours in large, rough waves all through the night to change to a new fuel pump. This is the only time Penn has ever been seasick in his entire life. Film credit Kitty Donnan
